Since the World Wide Web is becoming a part of our daily lives, the Board of Directors of DACS felt it would be a good idea to add a new feature to the monthly General Meeting. Starting with the March 4, 1998 meeting, the DACS Surfin' Safari (to borrow from the Beach Boys) will feature a member of DACS surfing the web, for all to see, on the overhead screen. The intent of the Surfin' Safari is to allow our members so share their Internet experiences with each other. Surfing the web is often a solitary activity, but it no longer has to be.

The way we want to try this out is to invite all interested DACS members to submit a list of their favorite web sites, via email to me for coordination and screening purposes. It would be helpful if the list were in the form of an HTML document, if at all possible. If not, then in any electronic format will be acceptable. Subject matter is entirely up to you. It might be a good idea to develop a theme, based on your own area of expertise or interest. I think that a theme will make things flow together better than a random list of sites. I will check out all sites submitted for suitability. I do not intent to act as a censor, but I have an obligation to those in attendance, to make sure that we don't present any material that might be deemed offensive in any way. Common sense is all that is needed when deciding what you might want to submit for consideration. Along with your list of sites to surf, please include a list of future meetings that you plan on attending. This will allow me to schedule a few meetings in advance.

If you are chosen to lead a Surfin' Safari, I will contact you via email in plenty of time to confirm a date. On the specified date, you will need to arrive at 6:30 PM, so you can "pre-surf" your list of sites, on the PC and Internet connection that DACS will provide. The plan is to have approximately 15 minutes for the Surfin' Safari, right after the Random Access portion of the meeting.

For the purposes of getting things started, I will be the Surfin' Safari guinea pig at the March 4th meeting. If you are interested in being a Safari leader, or have questions, suggestions or ideas, please contact me, via email, at wallydavid@myself.com.
