Mr. Dooley, a CPA specializing on fraud and white collar crime, will talk about how to protect our computers and our customers from the "dot.con" and the "con-men" and other criminals that take advantage of computers to defraud the community. Mr. Dooley will tell us what techniques criminals are using; with that knowledge we can learn how to protect ourselves from becoming a victim. Special Agent Dooley is based in New Haven. He was the lead investigator in the case of Martin Frankel, who for eight years in the 1990's operated a phony trading floor from his Greenwich Connecticut home and defrauded a half-dozen insurance companies of more than $218 million. Using computer analysis, Dooley was able to trace Frankel's activities, that included a scheme to obtain control of the assets of several companies, drain off those assets through a "fraudulent" brokerage firm and then transfer and launder them through a dummy charity. Agent Dooley is a speaker on "White Crime Collar, Cyber Crime and Forensic Accounting" matters before civic, profession and law enforcement groups in the U.S. and Eastern Europe. He is also a lecturer at the International Law Enforcement Academies in Budapest and Bangkok. Mark September 3rd as an important date not to miss; the speaker will give us all the information necessary to prevent us from becoming the next cyber crime victim. DACS' general meetings start at 7 pm with a question and answer session, followed by brief club announcements. The main presentation starts at 8 p.m. |
